Job Description: Safety Manager
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and oversee the company’s safety programs across all operations, with a focus on construction, asphalt, and concrete projects. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in these industries, a strong working knowledge of OSHA standards, and a proactive approach to cultivating a culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations (including OSHA standards).
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments on project sites to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and develop plans to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Deliver safety orientation, training programs, and toolbox talks for employees, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure the company’s safety program remains current and effective.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by working closely with field crews, superintendents, and management.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections and regulatory agency inquiries.
- Track and analyze safety metrics and provide regular reports to leadership on safety performance.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management within the construction, asphalt, or concrete industries.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations.
- Proven experience in conducting inspections, reporting, and documentation related to workplace safety.
- Strong incident investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities; capable of influencing and training workers at all levels.
- OSHA 30-hour certification (required); additional certifications such as CHST or CSP (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety management systems/software.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and delivering safety training materials.
- Experience working on heavy civil construction or road construction projects.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish (a plus).
