Job Description

Construction Manager

Location: Westside of Atlanta, GA 30336

Work Environment: Onsite, Office- Based

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Our client, Advanced Commercial Group, a leading service provider of commercial refrigeration and cold storage solutions is seeking an experienced and results-driven Construction Manager to lead a high-performing team of 20+ skilled technicians. The ideal candidate will bring strategic insight, advanced management capabilities, and comprehensive knowledge of cold storage and refrigeration construction.

This position requires a seasoned functional manager, adept at advanced project management techniques, including familiarity with integrated master schedules, Estimate at Complete (EAC), detailed estimating, and material take-offs. Candidates must possess technical proficiency with ACR piping systems and refrigeration case installations. The Construction Manager will utilize advanced work management tools (Monday.com, Procore, Smartsheet, etc.) to optimize resource allocation, improve productivity, and enhance project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of construction technicians, pipefitters, and case installers—ensuring high-quality field execution, strong team culture, and technician retention. Provide daily coaching, ride-alongs, and performance management.
  • Directly manage the Construction Scheduler and Estimator, ensuring optimal coordination between project planning, labor deployment, and job readiness. Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development for both roles.
  • Own labor planning and capacity forecasting, using project timelines and historical performance to guide technician assignments, scheduling decisions, and hiring needs. Balance project demand with available workforce and prioritize accordingly.
  • Oversee field team performance, including hiring, onboarding, training, compensation, evaluations, and corrective actions. Define and enforce clear expectations for technical skill, safety, attitude, and reliability.
  • Ensure readiness of job sites through preconstruction involvement, collaborating with the Estimator and Project Managers to validate scope, material needs, labor assumptions, and buildability.
  • Manage departmental budgets, including technician labor forecasts, fleet vehicles, tools, safety equipment, and training. Optimize resource usage while protecting quality and safety.
  • Hold the field accountable for safety, quality, and execution standards, conducting site visits, audits, and ride-alongs to identify gaps and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Managers, Dispatch, Finance, and Leadership to align on execution strategy, customer expectations, and technician utilization.
  • Continuously improve operational systems and workflows, driving gains in cost control, schedule accuracy, and field productivity across the department.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in construction leadership, with direct responsibility for managing and developing field teams (e.g., technicians, pipefitters, case setters). Must have held full-time people management responsibility, not just lead tech or crew supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, train, retain, and exit team members in a fast-paced, multi-project environment. Comfortable conducting compensation reviews, performance evaluations, and corrective action processes.
  • Proven experience managing a departmental or regional labor budget, including forecasting technician labor needs, managing OT costs, approving PTO, and balancing technician allocation across projects.
  • Hands-on knowledge of refrigeration construction field work, including ACR piping, case setting, and equipment rigging — with a clear ability to train, coach, and assess technician skill levels objectively.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including timekeeping oversight, schedule alignment with project managers, and team compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Effective at building a strong technician culture: able to boost morale, reduce turnover, and align field teams with company values and operational goals.
  • Proficient in using workforce management and scheduling platforms such as Monday.com, as well as time tracking, payroll, and communication tools (e.g., Slack, ADP, BambooHR).
  • Confident communicator who can represent the department in leadership meetings, collaborate with Project Managers, Dispatch, and Finance, and act as a tie-breaker in technician scheduling or field performance issues.
  • Willing and able to spend regular time on job sites to coach, observe, and audit technician performance and safety compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications or advanced training in construction management or project management methodologies (PMP, Six Sigma, Lean Construction).
  • Extensive network within the commercial refrigeration and cold storage industry.
  • Experience working within environments that emphasize continuous improvement and performance-driven cultures.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $130,000 – $140,000, plus bonus potential
  • Company vehicle & gas card
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
