Position Title: Safety Inspector

Position Description:
The Safety Inspector is responsible for overseeing aspects of safety activities in the field and the office in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards. The Safety Inspector exercises independent judgment and discretion in making recommendations to Client’s Project Manager regarding the quality standards, safety practices and regulatory compliance aspects of pipeline construction projects.
This position does not require or involve manual labor. The Safety Inspector’s primary duty is to observe and report to client and to carry out project administration and the general business operations of the client in accordance with specific client project requirements with respect to problem solving, interpreting appropriate standards and monitoring the construction activities for regulatory and code compliance, design standards and determining ways in which to do this using their training, expertise, judgment and experience. It is important to note that each client is different and has different requirements depending upon the location (city/state of the project, geographic and weather limitations, and the type of project).
The client’s job description, where applicable, must also be adhered to and will be provided to the safety inspector for each project. Client job descriptions are subject to change and vary from client to client and project to project. No two projects are the same; all duties for all positions are different based on a myriad of factors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Job duties will vary depending upon the particular circumstances of each individual project and the needs and requirements of the Client, including the Client’s Project Manager. Employee is required to comply with the Client’s operational requirements which vary from project to project. Employee should be prepared and able to perform the following job duties, although the specific duties required for each project will depend on the Employee’s supervisor and the particular needs of each client and project depending upon the location, geographic and weather conditions, and client requirements:
- Performs duties as designated by the Client’s Project Manager, in accordance with the job requirements outlined in the assigned activity.
- Consults with Client’s Project Manager regarding the application of standard health and safety requirements on construction projects.
- Observes and consults with Client’s Project Manager on safe working conditions on the project site(s).
- Assists with administration, preparation and implementation of project safety plans and training.
- Assists with review, administration, and implementation of client company, contractor, and subcontractor safety action plans.
- Assists in monitoring contractor and subcontractor performance to establish that safety deficiencies are corrected.
- Assists contractor and subcontractor in abating unsafe conditions and in accident investigations, if requested by Client’s Project Manager.
- Assists in the planning and performance of safety audits on field and office sites.
- Reviews incident reports and audit results and prepare summary reports and consults with the Client’s Project Manager.
- Make recommendations regarding weather conditions in regard to its effects on site and worker safety.

- Ability to Travel to Worksite as Follows:
- Must have valid drivers’ license
- Must be physically able to travel by automobile to client site in other states or within Texas
- Must be physically able to drive an automobile and have reliable transportation.
- Must have the ability to be physically present to work onsite at client’s location on a daily basis and to work away from home for extended periods of time
- Must have the ability to work independently without supervision in order to perform job duties listed in this Job Description
- Must have the ability to manage time effectively in order to accomplish job tasks in an organized and efficient manner and within deadlines set by client
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform duties as designated by the chief inspector and client’s project manager in accordance with the job requirements outlined in the assigned activity.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times, including attire and grooming, in order to maintain GIFS’s image and increase the effectiveness of your inspection and communication efforts.
- Must be physically able to walk on uneven or rough surfaces, traverse on foot through typical construction job site conditions, and stand for long periods of time.
EDUCATION:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preferred degree in Safety or equivalent experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years of experience in pipeline and related facilities construction activities in the field of safety or similar experience in plants, refineries, stations, and other energy infrastructure construction projects
- 1+ years overseeing aspects of safety activities in the field and the office in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards
- Basic computer knowledge: i.e., Word, Excel, and email functions
- Current OSHA 30 certification
- Current OSHA 500 or 510 certification
- Current Operator Qualifications from NCCER, Veriforce, or both
