Construction Specialist

Business Unit: Gas Operations

Job Location: Santa Clara Area

Provide Field Engineering support for projects in various stages of construction. Assist with the preparations and maintenance of construction schedules. Maintain construction files, logs, test data, and red line drawings for all field variances. The Construction Specialist provides input and recommendations to the Client’s Representative regarding the quality standards, safety practices, and regulatory compliance aspects of pipeline construction projects.

This position does not require or involve manual labor. The Construction Specialist’s primary duty is to observe and report to the client and to carry out project administration and the general business operations of the client in accordance with specific client project requirements with respect to problem-solving, interpreting appropriate standards, and monitoring the construction activities for regulatory and code compliance, design standards and determining ways in which to do this using their training, expertise, judgment, and experience. It is important to note that each client is different and has different requirements depending upon the location (city/state of the project, geographic and weather limitations, and the type of project).

The client’s job description, where applicable, must also be adhered to and will be provided to the field engineer for each project. client job descriptions are subject to change and vary from client to client and project to project. no two projects are the same; all duties for all positions are different based on a myriad of factors.

Education

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of oil and gas construction, inspection, or other related experience (Preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience providing technical support for projects in various stages of construction.
  • Basic computer knowledge: e. Word, Excel, and email functions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Job Functions

Employee is required to comply with the Client’s operational requirements which vary from project to project. The employee should be prepared and able to perform the following job duties, although the specific duties required for each project will depend on the Employee’s supervisor and the needs of each client and project depending upon the location, geographic and weather conditions, and client requirements:

Performs duties as designated by the Client’s Representative, in accordance with the job requirements outlined in the assigned activity.

Coordinates with the construction contractor’s supervisory personnel involved in long-term planning to communicate that project objectives and project milestones are being achieved.

Assist with RFI documentation and work with Clients and Contractors on resolutions. Review, forward, and track the status of submittals and change orders. Reviews, inspects and documents projects in terms of Client Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, and Operating and Maintenance Procedures. Assist in the preparation of as-built packages.

Provides technical support to operations as needed and works closely with site management, design/project engineers, vendors, and subcontractors; updates/tracks project status generates status reports, and aids in preparing material takeoffs and material submittals.

Works with field supervision regarding document control, scheduling, and materials and provides QA/QC support. Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities. prepares daily progress reports and assists in project close-out.

    • Making recommendations to clients on situations that may require construction crews to work outside of the parameters of the client’s specifications.
    • Effectively utilizing good time and priority management (must be able to multi-task).
    • Maintaining and facilitating positive relations with and between the client, regulators, contractors’ crews, property owners, and other project participants.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Physically able to operate an automobile, and have reliable transportation.
  • Frequent sitting and operating a computer.
  • Occasionally lift, up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather/weather conditions.
  • When on job sites, frequent standing, and walking through varied types of terrain.
  • Must have the ability to work independently without supervision to perform job duties listed in this Job Description.
  • Ability to travel as required for site visits on a long-term basis.
  • Must be able to complete all mandatory assigned training.
