Job Description
As the Business Development Manager, you will lead EPC sales for large-scale ground-mount solar projects. You will spearhead business growth and market expansion primarily focused on sales, business development, and market penetration, with a strong emphasis on revenue generation and new client acquisition.
Responsibilities
- Build and expand presence in key growth markets to drive revenue growth and market penetration
- Understand power generation and delivery models for solar and BESS
- Develop and implement winning sales strategies for competitive proposals, including compelling cover letters and value propositions
- Meet or exceed assigned sales quotas and performance metrics (annual revenue, new accounts, proposal win rate)
- Research and attend industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to generate leads
- Cold call and conduct outreach campaigns to potential clients in target markets
- Build and maintain strong relationships with utility companies, renewable energy developers & IPPs, industrial facility owners, and C&I clients
- Serve as a trusted advisor, regularly meeting with clients to understand their challenges and upcoming projects
- Ensure high client satisfaction on existing projects while identifying opportunities for account expansion
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate client needs into winning proposals
- Manage the proposal process from opportunity identification through to submission, adhering to deadlines
- Stay updated on industry trends and market conditions to identify new sales opportunities
- Track industry developments (renewable energy incentives, utility modernization plans, competitor activities)
- Manage the end-to-end sales cycle from qualification through contract closure
- Coordinate proposal development, ensuring responses meet technical specifications and highlight competitive advantages
- Facilitate contract negotiations in partnership with senior management
- Maintain accurate pipeline reporting, sales forecasts, action plans
- Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and emerging technologies in the energy sector
- Provide feedback to leadership on market conditions and help refine service offerings accordingly
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across functional teams and other stakeholders
- Tender support and pre-construction – collaborating with project managers and engineers through the contracting phase
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Business, or related field)
- 5+ years of experience in business development & account management, selling EPC services in the grid-tied utility-scale solar sector
- Established relationships with IPPs, developers, renewable energy asset managers and utilities involved in the Canadian PV markets
- Demonstrable history of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a B2B environment
- Familiarity with the power/energy generation landscape and key players
- Sufficient understanding of power/energy concepts to engage credibly with technical clients
- Familiarity with terminology and trends in renewable energy, grid modernization, and power systems
- Working knowledge of the economics of solar EPC and should be comfortable working with project pricing and financial models in excel
- The candidate will also need detailed knowledge of the solar project development process and be able to filter potential opportunities to identify those with the highest probability
- Ability to develop and manage strategic relationships, assess market & develop market, and convey economic value propositions to potential customers
- Must be skilled in negotiating with large-scale customers and addressing customer-related issues in a manner that promotes highest customer satisfaction while maintaining profitability
