Job Description

As the Business Development Manager, you will spearhead business growth and market expansion. You will primarily focused on sales, business development, and market penetration across the Mid-Atlantic region, with a strong emphasis on revenue generation and new client acquisition. The position requires identifying and securing new business opportunities in renewable energy, power distribution, grid modernization, and energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities in distributed energy, electrical infrastructure, grid modernization, and renewable energy sectors
  • Drive significant revenue growth and market penetration
  • Build and expand presence in key growth markets including:
    • Substation and transmission/distribution engineering for private developers and industrial clients (including AI/data center power generation and site development)
    • Power generation and delivery (including solar, wind, microgrids and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS))
    • Power engineering work for Mid-Atlantic electric utilities
  • Develop and implement winning sales strategies for competitive proposals, including compelling cover letters and value propositions
  • Meet or exceed assigned sales quotas and performance metrics (annual revenue, new accounts, proposal win rate)
  • Research and attend industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to generate leads
  • Cold call and conduct outreach campaigns to potential clients in target markets
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utility companies, renewable developers, industrial facility owners, and C&I clients
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor, regularly meeting with clients to understand their energy challenges and upcoming projects
  • Ensure high client satisfaction on existing projects while identifying opportunities for account expansion
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate client needs into winning proposals
  • Manage the proposal process from opportunity identification through submission
  • Stay updated on industry trends and market conditions to identify new sales opportunities
  • Develop persuasive ROI and business case materials for prospects
  • Manage the end-to-end sales cycle from qualification through contract closure
  • Coordinate proposal development, ensuring responses meet technical specifications and highlight competitive advantages
  • Drive contract negotiations in partnership with senior management
  • Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and sales forecasts in the CRM system
  • Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and emerging technologies in the energy sector
  • Track industry developments (renewable energy incentives, utility modernization plans, competitor activities)
  • Provide feedback to leadership on market conditions and help refine service offerings accordingly

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required (Engineering, Business, or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management
  • Track record of successful technical sales in the energy, power systems, or engineering services sectors
  • Demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a B2B environment
  • Experience selling to utilities, industrial clients, and/or renewable energy developers
  • Familiarity with the power/energy industry landscape and key players in the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Sufficient understanding of power/energy concepts to engage credibly with technical clients
  • Familiarity with terminology and trends in renewable energy, grid modernization, and power systems
  • Understanding of the sales cycle for engineering and consulting services
