Job Description

About the Opportunity

Our client is a successful entrepreneur and investor who oversees a sophisticated private ecosystem: a single-family office, three operating businesses, and a tax preparation practice. He is seeking a polished, strategic Director of Finance to serve as his ultimate professional right-hand someone who can take full ownership of his personal, family office, and business financials and free up his time for higher-level priorities.

This is a rare opportunity to work directly with a high-net-worth principal in a trusted, high-visibility role with genuine long-term career potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Tax Oversight & Executive Review: Serve as an expert filter between the principal and outside accountants. Review personal tax returns with a critical eye to catch errors, missed deductions, or planning opportunities. Be prepared to step in and prepare personal returns directly if ever needed.
  • Financial Operations & Cash Flow Management: Own day-to-day financial operations across three operating businesses and the family office — managing bank accounts, bill pay/accounts payable, cash flow forecasting, and payroll (via Paychex).
  • Systems Management: Maintain clean, accurate books and general ledgers in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
  • Executive Right-Hand / Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact bridging the principal, internal team members, and external CPAs/advisors.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: A seasoned finance professional with deep career maturity who can operate as a grounded, trusted advisor.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong command of QuickBooks Online and personal income tax preparation/planning. Prior experience supporting a high-net-worth individual or family office strongly preferred.
  • Credentials: CPA strongly preferred; will consider highly qualified non-CPA candidates with equivalent expertise.
  • Presence: Polished, confident communicator who can operate with discretion at the highest levels.
  • Mindset: Proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented — someone who looks for ways to optimize and improve, not just process transactions.

Culture & Benefits

  • Modern office in a prime Manhattan location
  • Collaborative team of ~20
  • Competitive base salary with strong discretionary bonus potential
  • Core in-office culture balanced with daily flexibility and Summer Fridays
