Estimating Application Engineer – Electrical Equipment Manufacturing

About the Opportunity

Our client designs and manufactures electrical equipment and is adding an Estimating Application Engineer to its Northwest Houston team. You'll turn customer plans and specifications into accurate, competitive bids for projects in oil and gas, data centers, critical power, and utilities.

This role fits someone who understands both the technical side of electrical equipment and the business side of winning work. You'll own the bid from the first review of the documents through the final submittal.

What You'll Do

Scope and Analyze Projects

• Review industrial and commercial building plans and electrical drawings to define each project's electrical requirements.
• Study bid packages to understand the full project scope, including specifications, addenda, and contract terms.
• Identify required materials, product types and grades, and the resources needed to deliver a compliant bid on time.

Build the Estimate

• Develop detailed bills of material that meet customer specifications and requirements.
• Request and compare vendor quotes, and check that quoted materials match the plans and specs.
• Audit final bills of material for accuracy before submittal.

Manage the Bid Process

• Determine what documentation each submittal needs and who should contribute or review it.
• Coordinate internal input so bids are complete and meet deadlines.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed.

What You Bring

• 4+ years of experience in electrical estimating and/or application engineering for manufactured electrical products.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, and construction drawings.
• Experience with contract documents, including drawings, specifications, subcontracts, addenda, and change orders.
• Solid understanding of electrical materials, construction methods, and estimating techniques.
• Working knowledge of the NEC, local codes, and UL standards.
• Familiarity with suppliers and sourcing databases relevant to project specifications.
• A track record of winning bids, with examples you can walk through in interviews.

Nice to Have

• Estimating experience in oil and gas, data center, or critical power markets.
• Background in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with industrial product lines from Eaton, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and GE.
• Strong grasp of power system applications, electrical product design, and circuit fundamentals.
