Position Overview
A growing MEP consulting practice is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design building power, lighting, and low-voltage systems for projects throughout the Orlando area. This position supports work from early planning and system layout through permitting, construction documents, and field support. The engineer will coordinate closely with architects and other engineering disciplines while contributing practical, code-compliant, and energy-conscious solutions for commercial, municipal, public-sector, and residential facilities.
What You'll Own
Develop electrical designs for building power distribution, lighting, controls, and low-voltage infrastructure.
Produce Revit and AutoCAD drawings from conceptual layouts through coordinated construction documents.
Prepare load calculations, circuiting plans, panel schedules, equipment layouts, and supporting design documentation.
Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other building disciplines.
Review existing electrical infrastructure and recommend practical upgrades, replacements, or optimization strategies.
Apply electrical codes, energy requirements, design standards, and project criteria throughout the design process.
Develop technical reports, design narratives, permit documentation, and construction-phase records.
Respond to RFIs, review submittals, evaluate contractor questions, and support resolution of field conditions.
Participate in site observations to verify general conformance with design intent when project needs require it.
Perform internal quality checks and incorporate review comments into coordinated deliverables.
Track evolving MEP design practices and identify efficient, sustainable, and constructible electrical solutions.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Three or more years of hands-on experience designing electrical building systems for multidisciplinary projects.
Strong proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD in an MEP or building-design environment.
Ability to advance electrical designs from early concepts through completed permit and construction documents.
Experience preparing engineering calculations, system layouts, panel schedules, and detailed design documentation.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate electrical components with architectural and mechanical building systems.
Working knowledge of codes, standards, and energy requirements applicable to electrical building design.
Ability to work on-site in the Orlando, Florida area and communicate effectively with project teams and clients.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer-in-Training certification, active Professional Engineer license, or documented progress toward professional licensure.
Exposure to green-building programs, LEED projects, sustainable design, or energy-efficient electrical systems.
Experience supporting commercial, municipal, public-sector, multifamily, or residential building projects.
Construction-administration experience involving RFIs, submittals, site observations, and field coordination.
Interest in developing stronger technical ownership and expanding responsibility across complete project lifecycles.
Success in This Role
Electrical designs are accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, and ready for permitting and construction.
Power, lighting, and low-voltage systems integrate cleanly with the full building model.
Calculations, schedules, drawings, and narratives remain consistent across project deliverables.
Construction questions and field conditions receive timely, practical, and well-documented responses.
Design decisions improve reliability, energy performance, constructability, and long-term facility value.
Working Relationship
This role works closely with architects, mechanical and structural engineers, project managers, clients, permitting authorities, and construction teams. It is well suited for a collaborative engineer who can move between detailed production work, multidisciplinary coordination, technical analysis, and construction support.
