Job Description
Project Manager – Design-Build (Hybrid | Greater Milwaukee Area)
Industrial Food Facilities | National Project Portfolio
A design-build consulting group specializing in complex, large-scale food production and cold chain environments is adding a Project Manager to its Wisconsin-based team. This role blends office collaboration (3 days/week) with field exposure and national project travel.
You’ll be responsible for driving projects from early planning through final turnover—owning schedule, budget, coordination, and execution. Travel is part of the job, typically in short bursts (1–3 days), with some longer-term project assignments depending on scope.
What You’ll Own
This is a full lifecycle project leadership role—not just coordination.
- Lead projects from conceptual planning through construction completion and client handoff
- Coordinate across internal teams (design, estimating, construction) and external partners (engineers, subcontractors, vendors)
- Build and manage project schedules, budgets, and execution plans
- Oversee subcontractor performance, procurement activities, and material tracking
- Run project meetings and maintain alignment between stakeholders
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and payment requests for accuracy and compliance
- Manage cost control and ensure projects hit financial targets
- Maintain direct client communication and accountability for delivery quality
- Guide and mentor junior project staff, including performance oversight
What You Bring
You need to be comfortable owning outcomes, not just tasks.
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
- 5–10 years of experience managing construction or design-build projects
- Strong understanding of construction workflows, budgeting, and scheduling
- Working knowledge of building codes and industry standards
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders across design and construction phases
- Ability to operate independently while keeping leadership informed
Tools & Technical Exposure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook
- Familiarity with construction/project management platforms (Procore, Sage, or similar) is a plus
- Experience reviewing technical drawings and construction documentation
What Helps You Stand Out
- Background in food production, distribution, refrigeration, or temperature-controlled facilities
- Experience with complex industrial or process-driven environments
- Exposure to design-build delivery models
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a bonus, not a requirement
Work Structure & Travel
- Hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 remote) in the greater Milwaukee area
- Travel required for project work, including site visits, coordination meetings, and inspections
- Project assignments may span several months up to ~2 years depending on scope
Core Traits for Success
- Strong communicator who can keep multiple groups aligned
- Highly organized with tight attention to detail
- Adaptable in fast-moving project environments
- Comfortable making decisions and owning results
- Capable of leading teams and holding others accountable
