Position Overview
An established engineering, procurement, and construction organization is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support mid-sized and large industrial projects throughout the United States. This role combines office-based design with extensive field execution and commissioning responsibilities. The engineer will lead electrical scope from early planning through startup, provide practical technical direction, and help project teams deliver safe, reliable systems within schedule and budget expectations.
What You'll Own
Develop and review one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, and hazardous-area classification drawings.
Perform or evaluate load-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, motor-starting, and protective-device coordination studies.
Use ETAP or comparable analysis software to model and assess industrial electrical systems.
Apply NEC, NFPA, API, and other applicable requirements throughout design and field execution.
Lead electrical scope for mid-sized and large EPC projects and proposals from design through commissioning.
Oversee site testing, load-bank testing, installation verification, system energization, startup, and commissioning activities.
Troubleshoot field issues and confirm that installed equipment and power-distribution systems perform as intended.
Review vendor submittals, drawings, equipment packages, and technical documentation for compliance with project specifications.
Identify scope changes, evaluate technical impacts, and adjust designs to protect cost, quality, and schedule commitments.
Perform quality reviews and coordinate electrical requirements with clients, vendors, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
Serve as a senior technical resource while reviewing work and mentoring electrical engineers and designers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
Ten to fifteen or more years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably supporting EPC or industrial projects.
Strong experience designing power-distribution systems and producing electrical engineering deliverables.
Hands-on experience supporting field execution, site testing, startup, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
Working knowledge of ETAP or another recognized power-system analysis platform.
Practical understanding of NEC, NFPA, API, and other standards applicable to industrial electrical work.
Ability to lead technical scope, manage competing priorities, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
Ability to work remotely, travel approximately 6070%, meet project deadlines, and safely work at industrial sites, including occasional extended hours or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer license or the ability and interest to obtain professional licensure.
Experience leading electrical engineering on complex, multidisciplinary EPC projects or competitive proposals.
Advanced experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or comparable study software.
Experience overseeing load-bank testing, system energization, protective relaying, or other commissioning activities.
Background supporting industrial process facilities, hazardous locations, brownfield work, or large capital projects.
Success in This Role
Electrical designs are technically sound, code-compliant, constructible, and aligned with project requirements.
Site testing and commissioning activities are executed safely and issues are resolved before they affect startup.
Scope changes and technical risks are identified early enough to protect budgets and schedules.
Clients and project teams receive clear recommendations, dependable technical leadership, and timely decisions.
Junior engineers and designers produce stronger work through consistent review, direction, and mentorship.
Working Relationship
This position partners with project management, engineering disciplines, construction teams, commissioning personnel, clients, vendors, and contractors. It is best suited for a self-directed senior engineer who can move comfortably between detailed design, field problem-solving, client communication, and team leadership.
