AspenTech OSI Monarch SCADA Engineer

Location: Houston, TX (Preferred) | Open to 100% Remote
Type: Contract-to-Hire


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AspenTech OSI Monarch SCADA Engineer to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of a mission-critical SCADA environment. This role will work closely with operations, engineering, and IT teams to enhance real-time monitoring, control systems, and grid/asset visibility.

AspenTech OSI Monarch is a feature-rich SCADA platform used for real-time monitoring, control, and advanced situational awareness across utility and industrial environments, with strong emphasis on cybersecurity, scalability, and operational efficiency.

This position is ideal for someone who has worked in power/utilities, oil & gas, or industrial automation environments and understands both OT systems and enterprise integrations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and support AspenTech OSI Monarch SCADA systems
  • Develop and maintain:
    • SCADA displays (HMI/visualization)
    • Network models and telemetry integrations
    • Data acquisition and communication interfaces (ICCP, OPC, DNP3, etc.)
  • Perform system configuration, upgrades, and patching activities
  • Support real-time operations, ensuring high availability and performance
  • Integrate SCADA with:
    • Historians (OSI PI / Chronus or similar)
    • EMS/DMS/ADMS platforms
    • Enterprise systems and reporting tools
  • Troubleshoot SCADA, communication, and data quality issues
  • Support cybersecurity and compliance initiatives (NERC CIP or similar)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, field operations, IT)
  • Participate in on-call support or incident response as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 3–7+ years of experience with SCADA systems in industrial or utility environments
  • Hands-on experience with AspenTech OSI Monarch SCADA (or legacy OSI systems)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • SCADA architectures (FEP, RTU, HMI, historian)
    • Real-time data acquisition and telemetry systems
  • Experience with industry protocols:
    • ICCP (TASE.2), DNP3, OPC DA/UA, Modbus
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows server environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and system integration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in power utilities, energy, oil & gas, or pipeline operations
  • Familiarity with:
    • OSI CHRONUS Historian or other historians (PI, Wonderware, etc.)
    • EMS/DMS/ADMS systems
  • Knowledge of cloud-hosted SCADA environments (a growing trend with Monarch)
  • Experience with:
    • Scripting (Python, Shell, or similar)
    • SQL and data analysis/reporting tools
  • Understanding of NERC CIP or OT cybersecurity frameworks
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

Nice-to-Have (Differentiators)

  • Experience with:
    • OSI Maintenance Center, Voyager, or Report Studio
    • Operator Training Simulator (OTS)
  • Prior involvement in SCADA migrations or system upgrades
  • Exposure to high-availability / redundant SCADA architectures

Work Environment

  • Preference for candidates located in the Houston area
  • Open to fully remote candidates with strong Monarch experience
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs
