Plumbing Engineer
Location: Southwest Houston, TX
Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Position Overview
A well-established MEP consulting and design firm in Houston is seeking a Plumbing Engineer to support the design and execution of commercial and industrial building projects. This role is responsible for full lifecycle plumbing system design—from initial concept through construction support—across a variety of facility types.
Key Responsibilities
- Design plumbing systems including:
- Potable water
- Sanitary and vent systems
- Stormwater drainage
- Specialty/process piping systems
- Develop detailed engineering drawings and models using Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Perform hydraulic calculations for system sizing, pressure, and flow analysis
- Specify plumbing equipment including fixtures, pumps, valves, and water heating systems
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams to ensure integrated designs
- Conduct field observations and support construction to ensure design compliance
- Ensure all designs meet applicable codes and standards:
- IPC, UPC, ASPE, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirements
- Prepare construction documents, technical reports, and cost estimates
- Incorporate sustainable design practices (water conservation, reuse systems, etc.)
- Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering discipline
- 5+ years of plumbing design experience in commercial and/or industrial environments
- Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of plumbing systems, codes, and design standards
- Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex facility types (healthcare, labs, data centers, manufacturing)
- Knowledge of:
- Medical gas systems
- Steam and process piping systems
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and BIM coordination workflows
- LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable design initiatives
