C2's client, a purpose-driven financial services organization serving more than 200,000 members through a family of member-based fraternal brands, combines financial security with community impact. Their mission: to help members build lasting security while strengthening the communities they call home, seeks a contract Senior Accountant to work closely with the Controller in support of financial reporting, compliance, and strategic accounting initiatives.

This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting and organizational impact. The Senior Accountant takes ownership of complex financial work, including statement preparation, audit management, regulatory reporting, foundation accounting, and special projects from inception through completion, while exercising independent judgment on matters that affect the organization.

This role is a strong fit for an experienced accounting professional with an insurance or financial services background who brings both analytical rigor and a collaborative working style.

Location: Remote, ideal candidate local to Milwaukee, WI or Arden Hills, MN
Compensation: $50-$60/hour, commensurate with experience

Job Description

The Senior Accountant reports to the Controller and works within the client's Accounting department to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial reporting across the organization. This role also partners closely with the Director of Accounting and team members on complex issues, contributing to shared problem solving and continuous improvement.

This is a high-ownership role that requires someone who can operate independently on complex accounting work while communicating detailed financial information clearly to stakeholders.

The work spans financial statement preparation, audit support, account reconciliation, and regulatory and tax reporting. The Senior Accountant also manages accounting and reporting for the client's charitable foundation, requiring both technical precision and the ability to navigate specialized compliance requirements.

You will be expected to research applicable regulations, interpret complex financial information, and contribute to process improvements that make the team more effective.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements and manage account reconciliation, policy accounting, and audit requirements
  • Manage accounting and reporting for the client's charitable foundation
  • Research applicable regulations for special situations and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate on regulatory and tax reporting
  • Review financial statements and reports for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly and concisely to leadership
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness in financial planning and reporting processes
  • Support strategic initiatives and lead special projects from inception through completion

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Insurance industry experience required
  • Proficiency with financial statements and demonstrated understanding of key financial concepts
  • Strong research skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and business correspondence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present detailed financial information to non-financial audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to learn proprietary software
  • High attention to detail, strong sense of urgency, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently while collaborating effectively with the team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and interpret complex business correspondence and regulatory guidance

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with fraternal benefit societies, mutual insurance, or similarly structured organizations
  • Familiarity with charitable foundation accounting or nonprofit reporting requirements
  • CPA designation or active CPA candidacy preferred
