C2 client, a video creation company that helps corporations captivate their audiences by mixing a documentary style with on-brand messaging, seeks a Freelance Illustrator to design a project-specific explainer video that blends visual storytelling with educational content. This contract role will help bring to life a complex business theory using comic-inspired visuals and linear animation, similar in tone and execution to a sketchnote or whiteboard illustration/animation style.

Job Description:

This project aims to explain a conceptual business model for a manufacturing client using a highly visual, engaging video—approximately five minutes in length. Unlike typical whiteboard explainer videos, the creative direction for this piece will mimic a hand-drawn, comic-book-meets-sketchnote aesthetic. The voiceover script is already written, and the creative director will guide you through the core narrative and key visual metaphors. Depending on your availability and skillset, you may be responsible for both illustration and animation, or just one component of the project (the client has internal animators who may contribute).

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the creative director to understand the visual flow and key narrative moments
• Design original, storyboarded illustrations from scratch, based on the provided voiceover script
• Establish a consistent visual style aligned with the sketch/doodle-based animation concept
• (If animating:) Animate the illustrations into a compelling, well-paced explainer video synced to VO
• Deliver layered files for animation (if only illustrating), or a fully edited video (if animating)
• Ensure content is clear, engaging, and aligned with a professional/corporate audience
• Deliver final files in appropriate formats for web and internal presentation use

Qualifications:

• 3–5+ years of illustration and/or animation experience
• Proficiency in illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate
• (If applicable) Proficiency in animation tools like After Effects, Premiere, or Toon Boom
• Strong visual storytelling and ability to communicate complex ideas simply and clearly
• Experience in storyboarding and visual concept development
• (Bonus) Familiarity with explainer videos, business theory, or manufacturing/industrial topics
• Detail-oriented, organized, and responsive to feedback with quick turnaround capability
