Compensation
Remote (Video or Telephone):
Starting at $35 per hour
Onsite Court Proceedings, Depositions, and Legal Assignments:
Starting at $90+ per hour
Two-hour minimum
Compensation varies based on language, certification level, assignment type, and experience.
What You'll Do
As a Texas Licensed Court Interpreter, you will facilitate accurate communication during legal proceedings while maintaining complete impartiality and confidentiality.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation during court proceedings, hearings, depositions, attorney-client meetings, and other legal appointments.
- Interpret legal terminology accurately while preserving the meaning, tone, and intent of each speaker.
- Maintain neutrality and adhere to the Texas Code of Ethics for Court Interpreters.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing case information and relevant terminology when available.
- Deliver interpreting services both onsite and remotely using approved video and telephone platforms.
- Work professionally with judges, attorneys, court staff, witnesses, defendants, and agency representatives.
- Maintain accurate availability and communicate promptly regarding assignment scheduling.
- Protect confidential information in accordance with all applicable legal and ethical requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Current Texas Licensed Court Interpreter credential issued through the JBCC
- Demonstrated experience interpreting in courtroom or legal settings
- Strong proficiency in both English and the target language
- Advanced consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills
- Excellent command of legal terminology and courtroom procedures
- Strong note-taking and memory retention abilities
- Professional communication and organizational skills
- Reliable transportation for onsite assignments
- Ability to perform remote assignments with dependable internet, appropriate equipment, and a professional workspace
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience interpreting for criminal, civil, family, probate, immigration, or juvenile proceedings
- Experience providing deposition interpretation
- Familiarity with virtual court platforms
- Ability to travel throughout North Texas for onsite assignments
- Experience working with multiple courts, agencies, or law firms
