Summary:
The role of Fiber Technician is responsible for installation and maintaining fiber optic cables as needed and when required. A Fiber Technician is also responsible for providing technical support in designing and testing the fiber optics, as well as looking into existing laser and optical fiber devices and systems.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems and ensure that they work properly
- Examine and replace faulty and old fiber optic cables
- Organize scheduled maintenance routines
- Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas
- Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections to make sure that faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance
- Execute premises cabling and take care of the underground and underwater cabling requirements
- Keep track of the signal strength of different devices such as television, telephone to provide adequate performance
- Formulate and maintain system records and system designs
- Assemble equipment according to design specifications
- Performs tasks associated with the prepping and splicing of fiber lines
- Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle-check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
- Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment
- Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
- Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints
- Complete all other tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education required
- 2+ years' experience as fiber technician, fiber splicer, or similar role
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment
- Ability to communicate professionally with co-workers, homeowners, and customers
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 pounds several times each day
- Ability to endure long periods of standing, sitting, or walking
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment during all times of the year
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Ability to lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment
Additional Notes
This position may require being on-call. Employee will respond to emergency call between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. This position may require weekend work, night work, and/or overnight travel
This position is performed in the field both outdoor and indoor conditions on a daily basis.
