Job Description

Our client, a well-established firm in the legal industry, is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join their team. Based in their Halifax, Nova Scotia office, this permanent role offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced and collaborative finance team.

The ideal candidate is either a new graduate or early in their accounting career, seeking long-term stability with the opportunity to develop their skills. This is a fast-paced environment where dedication and attention to detail are valued. This position is well-suited for someone who wants to contribute to the success of a professional team. 

Key Responsibilities for the Job include:

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations, ensuring accurate transaction recording and resolving discrepancies.
  • Process electronic bank deposits and verify transaction details
  • Process accounts payable, matching invoices with purchase orders, and ensuring timely vendor payments
  • Post and monitor credit card transactions, reconcile statements, and track spending limits
  • Process employee expenses, obtain approvals, and ensure timely reimbursement
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding accounts and billing in a professional and timely manner
  • Track capital assets, record acquisitions and disposals, and maintain depreciation schedules
  • Prepare and submit HST filings, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and deadlines
  • Assist with budget entry, track variances, and provide reports as needed
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties to support finance operations

 Experience & Attributes for Success:

  • Post-secondary education in business or accounting, Bachelor of Commerce strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and accounting software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships 
  • Confident and professional approach 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Highly organized individual with strong attention to detail
  • 1-2 years experience as an Accounting Clerk or similar support position is an asset but not required
  • Previous experience working in the legal sector is an asset
