Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cost Controller to manage and maintain program financials for our client based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

This permanent position plays a key role in supporting project management teams by analyzing costs, budgets, and forecasts, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain the necessary security clearance for the role, due the nature of the business and programs associated with it.

Key Responsibilities for the Job: 

  • Review and analyze program costs and forecasts, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Perform variance analysis on costs, scope, and schedules, reporting on risks and supporting resolution of discrepancies
  • Maintain financial schedules, sub-ledgers, and program resource tracking
  • Prepare customer financial reports and ensure timely invoicing, monitoring unpaid invoices and assisting with overdue resolutions
  • Support quarterly EAC reviews, program cash flow analysis, and R&D Expenditure Credit or government funding submissions as required
  • Assist Program Managers with financial tools, bids, proposals, and customer interfaces when needed
  • Contribute to month-end close processes and provide detailed finance inputs to Senior Management
  • Additional related responsibilities as required

Skills & Attributes for Success:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance
  • CPA designation is a definite asset but not required
  • Previous experience in a cost-based and/or manufacturing environment is ideal
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel required
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an approachable demeanour
  • Aptitude and curiosity in learning new systems and processes
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and works well in a deadline-driven environment
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with the “big picture” in focus
  • Exceptional attention to detail
