Worklynx Recruitment Inc. is currently hiring a Prototype CNC Machinist / Model Maker for one of our innovative manufacturing clients located in Oakville, Ontario. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled machinist with experience producing tight-tolerance prototype components in both plastics and soft metals. The ideal candidate will thrive in a precision-driven environment and enjoy collaborating closely with engineering and development teams on custom prototype and tooling projects.

About the Role The Prototype CNC Machinist / Model Maker will be responsible for machining, programming, prototyping, fixture building, and supporting product development initiatives through high-precision manufacturing techniques. This position combines manual machining expertise with CNC programming and advanced CAD/CAM capabilities. The successful candidate will work with engineers and technical teams to fabricate custom components, molds, fixtures, gauges, and tooling while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the machining process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and program CNC multi-axis machining centers
  • Manufacture prototype components using plastics and soft metals
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360 and SolidWorks to support machining operations
  • Operate manual milling machines, grinders, and additional machining equipment
  • Build and modify fixtures, jigs, gauges, and tooling components
  • Perform polishing, finishing, and precision fitting of machined parts
  • Conduct repair work on tooling, molds, fixtures, and components
  • Support rapid prototyping and quick-turn machining projects
  • Develop machining programs and fixturing for unattended or overnight production runs
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and 3D models
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams on product development projects
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining quality, efficiency, and throughput
  • Maintain safe work practices and proper documentation standards

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Strong manual machining background with experience holding tight tolerances (±0.0005” preferred)
  • CNC setup and programming experience required
  • Proficiency using CAD/CAM software including Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of machining feeds, speeds, tooling, and material removal techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specifications
  • Experience working with prototype tooling, fixtures, molds, or custom components
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality standards
  • Tool & Die or Machinist certification considered an asset Nice to Have
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
  • Exposure to automated or semi-automated machining equipment
  • Experience machining non-metallic materials and prototype tooling applications
