Quality Lab Technician
Location: Lexington, NC
Position Overview
A premier metal fabrication manufacturer is seeking a skilled Quality Lab Technician to join their team in Welcome, NC. This hands-on position is responsible for performing accurate dimensional inspections on fabricated and welded steel parts using CMM equipment, Romer Arms, and traditional hand measurement tools. The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint reading abilities, GD&T expertise, and direct experience in a fast-paced steel manufacturing or welding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on steel components using precision equipment including CMM, Romer/Faro Arms, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Conduct first-off inspections and evaluate weld quality in accordance with industry standards (AWS D1.1/CSA W47.1).
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and weld symbols.
- Identify non-conforming products, assist in root cause analysis, and track resolution steps.
- Prepare quality control documentation, including PPAP, ISIR, and dimensional layout reports.
- Maintain equipment calibration records and support continuous improvement activities such as 5S and Kaizen.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 2 years of quality inspection or assurance experience within a fabrication or welding environment.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating CMM equipment.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating Romer Arm or Faro Arm measurement equipment.
- Proven experience using precision hand tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Proficient in blueprint reading, GD&T, and weld symbol interpretation.
- Post-secondary education in Quality, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on steel fabrication experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001).
- Exposure to PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA, and MSA.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 / CSA W47.1 welding inspection standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP or Quality Management Systems.
