Press Operator | Flexographic
Location: Sparta, MI


Position Overview
A leading flexible packaging manufacturing organization is seeking a Press Operator to join its production team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating flexographic printing presses to print custom designs and lettering onto flexible plastic film rolls. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on machinery experience, a focus on print quality and setup efficiency, and strong attention to safety and detailed specifications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate flexographic printing presses to run flexible plastic film at targeted production speeds.
  • Perform press changeovers, setups, and setups sign-ins efficiently to minimize roll changes and setup time.
  • Monitor product quality continuously, checking print specs, adjusting colors, and reviewing the web scanner every five minutes.
  • Run rewinders, pull rolls from the press, and verify finished product against job and extrusion paperwork.
  • Read, prepare, and verify job specs, proofs, and layouts for upcoming setups.
  • Communicate equipment and operational needs clearly to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Safely handle and label hazardous waste while keeping work areas clean and orderly.
  • Assist with training second press operators and press apprentices.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience operating printing, press, converting, or related industrial production machinery.
  • Strong measuring ability and basic mathematical proficiency (fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs).
  • Solid verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 40 lbs and frequently lift/move up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift and perform physical movements including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Excellent close and color vision to ensure print accuracy and color matching.
  • Comfort working around moving mechanical parts in a loud manufacturing setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in flexographic press setup and operation within the flexible packaging or plastics industry.
  • Familiarity with ink formulation, color matching, and web scanning quality systems.
  • Background in training or guiding entry-level machine operators and assistants.
