Extrusion Operator
Location: Sparta, MI


Position Overview
A prominent packaging manufacturing organization is seeking an Extrusion Operator to join its production team. This role is responsible for setting up and operating blown-film extrusion machinery to create high-quality plastic film products. The position is ideal for individuals with solid mechanical aptitude, strong measuring and math skills, and a desire to learn technical machinery operations within a fast-paced production environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to read job specification sheets to determine product requirements, including film width, gauge, and treat levels.
  • Perform machine setups, changeovers, and routine operational adjustments on extrusion equipment.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to verify manufactured product against specs and control scrap levels.
  • Complete required department reporting and production paperwork accurately.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and assist with operational troubleshooting.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, operating guidelines, and supervisor directions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area around production machinery.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to follow detailed written, verbal, and diagram instructions.
  • Comfortable with practical math, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs.
  • Ability to read safety rules, operating guides, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 25 lbs and frequently lift up to 75 lbs (including handling heavy film rolls).
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, stoop, crouch, and reach throughout a shift.
  • Comfort working at elevated heights (around machinery towers) and in a warm, non-climate-controlled plant environment.
  • Good visual ability, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior machine operator or assembly experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Previous experience in plastics manufacturing, blow molding, injection molding, or film extrusion.
  • Familiarity with basic preventive maintenance and quality testing tools.
