Quality Assurance Technician
Location: Independence, KS
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Technician to join a premier metal fabrication and manufacturing team. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality throughout all stages of the fabrication process, from raw material receipt to final assembly and shipment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on QA inspection experience, strong blueprint reading capabilities, and direct experience managing PPAP documentation to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections of fabricated and welded components to verify conformance to engineering drawings.
- Inspect raw materials, cut parts, and sub-assemblies using precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints, dimensional requirements, and control plans.
- Complete PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) reports, dimensional layouts, and related quality documentation.
- Conduct first-off inspections and verify fabrication setups prior to full production runs.
- Identify, document, and track non-conforming materials and support root cause analysis to prevent quality issues.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure the accuracy of plant inspection equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Proven Quality Assurance / Quality Control experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints.
- Direct experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and layouts.
- Demonstrated proficiency in performing physical measurements and understanding dimensional requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with experience identifying and documenting quality issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in steel fabrication, heavy welding, or assembly manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency with GD&T and weld-symbol interpretation.
- Hands-on experience with specialized inspection equipment such as CMM or Faro Arm.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949, as well as core tools like Control Plans, FMEA, or MSA.
- Post-secondary education in Quality, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
