Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: Greenville, SC
Position Overview
A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support environmental compliance, hazardous waste management, and workplace safety initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations while promoting a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in environmental compliance, hazardous waste management, ISO management systems, and EHS programs within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the facility hazardous waste program in compliance with RCRA regulations and Large Quantity Generator (LQG) requirements, including waste classification, accumulation area management, inspections, manifests, Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs), and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure compliance with DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations through proper classification, handling, shipping, and transportation of hazardous materials.
- Conduct environmental and safety risk assessments to identify hazards and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform regular facility inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions, environmental risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Investigate environmental incidents, workplace accidents, and injuries to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain environmental permits, records, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate environmental compliance activities related to air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and other applicable programs.
- Maintain and support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems, including internal audits, corrective actions, management reviews, and certification activities.
- Serve as Lead Auditor or support internal and third-party audits to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate EHS policies, procedures, training programs, and safety communications.
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional departments to strengthen environmental, health, and safety performance across the organization.
- Monitor EHS metrics, prepare reports, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, consultants, and external auditors as needed.
- Serve as a technical resource for environmental, health, and safety matters throughout the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, including RCRA hazardous waste requirements and DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations.
- Experience supporting environmental compliance programs, including air, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification preferred.
- ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Auditor certification preferred.
- Wastewater certification is a plus.
- Experience within automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments preferred.
