Sales Engineer
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Position Summary
The Sales Engineer is responsible for driving new business growth and supporting existing customer relationships within a highly technical plastic injection molding environment. This role combines engineering knowledge with a strong sales mindset to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and support revenue growth across automotive and other industrial markets. This individual will serve as a key technical liaison between customers and internal engineering teams while actively pursuing new business opportunities, managing accounts, and representing the company in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new customer opportunities within assigned territory or vertical markets
- Travel extensively to visit prospective and existing customers
- Build and maintain long-term customer relationships
- Provide technical sales support and product education
- Interpret customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Prepare and calculate customer quotations
- Negotiate and close sales agreements
- Coordinate sales projects across internal engineering and production teams
- Act as liaison between customers and internal technical teams
- Maintain accurate customer records and CRM documentation
- Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies
- Represent the company at trade shows and industry events as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required
- Strong background in plastic injection molding and tooling required
- Prior experience in technical sales or engineering-based customer-facing role
- Existing industry relationships or book of business strongly preferred
- Strong hunter mentality with proven ability to develop new business
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and specifications
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel frequently (domestic, including overnight travel)
