Manufacturing Engineer – Welding & Automation
Location: Lawrenceburg, TN
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer with strong experience in welding processes and automation systems within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on driving process improvements, supporting PLC-controlled systems, and programming robotic welding equipment to improve efficiency, quality, and overall production performance. This is a hands-on technical engineering role that partners closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize manufacturing processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize welding-based manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance.
- Support and troubleshoot PLC control systems and automation-related production issues.
- Program, maintain, and optimize robotic welding systems (Fanuc experience strongly preferred).
- Design and support tooling, fixtures, and layouts using AutoCAD and CAD viewer software.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure compliance with APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and other automotive standards.
- Support measurement systems, mechanical testing, and process validation activities.
- Apply AWS and RWMA standards to ensure welding process quality and compliance.
- Perform root cause analysis and support corrective actions for process, quality, and equipment issues.
- Analyze production and engineering data to identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate cross-functionally across engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Participate in standards development and support engineering best practices within the organization.
- Stay current with advanced robotics and automation technologies through industry learning and conferences.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a welding process and PLC-controlled environment within automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong experience with welding processes and automation systems.
- Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting and control systems.
- Experience with robotic welding programming (Fanuc preferred).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAD viewer software.
- Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
- Knowledge of AWS and RWMA welding standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects and collaborate across departments.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive manufacturing environments.
- Experience with fixture design, tooling development, and process validation.
- Exposure to advanced robotics, automation integration, or manufacturing system upgrades.
