Job Title: Bindery Operator
Industry: Commercial Printing / Bindery Operations
Employment Type: Full-Time/Permanent
Shift: 1st shift 7:00am to 3:00 pm

Location: Indianapolis, IN
Reports To: Production Manager

Position Overview

A well-established commercial printing operation is seeking an experienced Bindery Operator to join its production team. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining perfect binding equipment, completing finishing services per job specifications, and ensuring all work meets quality and production standards. The ideal candidate brings hands-on bindery experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and a team-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Team Operations

  • Operate perfect binding equipment as the primary machine operator
  • Coordinate with the Production Team to prioritize and re-sequence jobs as deadlines change
  • Support overall production operations as needed to meet customer commitments
  • Communicate job status, issues, and updates with production leadership and internal teams

Bindery & Finishing

  • Perform all bindery functions per work orders and job tickets
  • Package completed jobs and finalize work orders, tickets, and delivery documentation
  • Ensure finished products meet company quality and customer specifications

Equipment, Maintenance & Safety

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on bindery equipment
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and complete maintenance logs
  • Monitor bindery supplies and notify supervision of inventory needs
  • Report equipment issues to maintenance and supervision promptly

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience operating a perfect binder
  • Experience with setup and operation (Kolbus experience strongly preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent hands-on experience/training)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PUR glue applications
  • Experience using a book saw for digest binding
  • Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to follow written instructions for setup and maintenance
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Basic math skills and strong interpersonal communication
