The Print Cutting Operator is responsible for setting up and operating Polar guillotine cutters to accurately trim printed materials to final size. This role plays a critical part in the finishing process by ensuring precision, efficiency, and minimal waste in a high-volume commercial print manufacturing environment.
Set up and operate Polar 115 ED and Polar 137 ED cutters, including programming, backgauge settings, clamp pressure, and knife changes as required
Read and interpret job tickets and cut layouts to verify grain direction, counts, and tolerance requirements
Produce accurate, square cuts with clean edges while maintaining high productivity and low waste
Manage make-ready efficiently to meet production schedules
Perform in-process quality checks, document results, and escalate issues promptly when specifications are not met
Complete routine preventative maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication checks, blade handling coordination, and basic troubleshooting
Maintain a safe work environment, with strict adherence to safety procedures when working around knives, clamp systems, and material handling equipment
Proven experience operating Polar cutters or equivalent industrial guillotine cutting equipment
Strong math and measurement skills with the ability to work within tight tolerances
Solid understanding of paper characteristics, including grain direction, static, curl, and overall finishing flow
Demonstrated safety awareness and the ability to work independently while managing production priorities
Experience in a high-volume commercial print or print-finishing environment
Ability to assist with related finishing operations such as jogging, lifting, packing, or material staging
