Job Description

Job Summary

This position reports directly to the Operations Manager. Responsible for set-up, operation, and monitoring heat-treating equipment to treat metal materials. Making them stronger, more durable, and suitable for various industrial processes and equipment. This job description is subject to change, and the Heat Treat Set-Up Operators will be advised when changes are made.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Set-up and adjust heat-treating equipment; Vacuum heat treat furnace, tempering ovens, induction hardening machines, to achieve the required process parameters.
  • Load and unload materials or workpieces into/from the heat-treating equipment.
  • Continuously monitor the heat treatment process to ensure that materials are treated according to specifications.
  • Perform macro hardness inspections on applicable jobs, to verify conformance to blueprint requirements.
  • Prepare specimens for micro hardness inspections using; metallurgical saw, mounting press, and specimen grinding/polishing machine.
  • Inspect micro hardness on applicable jobs, to verify conformance to blueprint requirements.
  • Accurately record hardness inspection and process data as required by the quality system.
  • Identify and address any defects, deviations, or issues with the heat-treated materials.
  • Perform regular equipment checks and preventive maintenance to tooling and equipment in the heat treat department.
  • Assist in routine calibration of heat treatment equipment and inspection equipment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines for heat treatment processes.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and product related issues as they arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in Manufacturing is a plus.

Skills

  • Proficient in measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical condition.
  • Quick learner.
  • Positive attitude.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing setting
  • Works near moving mechanical parts on a regular basis.
  • Moderate noise levels.
  • Fast-paced.
  • Sitting/standing for long periods of time.
  • Bending/stooping.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
