Job Description

Process Engineer

The Process Engineer will apply technical knowledge and expertise in the development and/or implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment. The role ensures that design specifications and procurement of equipment, tooling, fixtures, and related items meet organizational requirements and objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design equipment/workspace layouts for maximum efficiency.

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.

  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements.

  • Ensure all processes are documented with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standard work.

  • Estimate production times, staffing needs, and related costs to support management decisions.

  • Coordinate activities to resolve production issues, maximize product reliability, and minimize costs.

  • Assist with daily troubleshooting to maximize output of on-grade product.

  • Implement corrective actions to address process deviations and perform root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

  • Support development of new prototypes and transition them into full-scale production.

  • Investigate customer complaints when required.

  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles to establish optimal assembly and fabrication methods.

  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives.

  • Lead area improvement teams, applying Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Lead development and execution of incremental capital and process improvements.

  • Obtain quotations and cost estimates for fixtures, tools, and engineering requirements for proposal preparation.

  • Identify and lead/facilitate Kaizen events as needed.

  • Collaborate with management, engineering, and other departments regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and process considerations.

  • Oversee installation and testing of machines, facilities, and equipment to ensure they meet specifications.

  • Develop models of alternate processing methods to assess feasibility and recommend implementation approaches.

  • Follow and comply with all applicable operational procedures and policies, including quality and environmental programs (e.g., IATF, ISO 14001).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in a metal fabrication and/or manufacturing environment.

  • Professional knowledge in metal-cutting operations, grinding, and tooling manufacturing.

  • Strong skills in manufacturing and process engineering, with experience in CNC machining, metal forming, and welding.

  • Extensive knowledge of general machining practices.

  • Ability to specify manufacturing processes, resolve machining issues through tooling, gauging, machining, or fixturing.

  • Ability to estimate machining cycle times, perform method analyses, and conduct project planning and analysis.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Pro-E, or MasterCAM is an asset.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
