Job Summary:
We’re working with a global automotive manufacturer seeking a Paint Process Engineer to lead and support engineering changes tied to E-coat operations on high-quality Class A metal surfaces. This role will drive process improvements, ensure documentation readiness, and collaborate cross-functionally to maintain compliance with customer and internal quality standards.
Own and implement engineering changes, ensuring timelines, budgets, and documentation stay on track and audit-ready
Serve as the APQP and FMEA lead for engineering-related updates
Lead monthly risk-reduction discussions focused on top RPN items, scrap rates, and customer feedback
Regularly review process feasibility with internal teams and ensure proper sign-off and alignment
Partner with production teams to ensure shop-floor needs are supported and addressed
Update and maintain critical process documents (FMEAs, work instructions, TPMs) to reflect changes and support consistent production
Participate in corrective actions and lean manufacturing initiatives driven by engineering or leadership
Communicate with sales, purchasing, accounting, and external suppliers to align on the commercial aspects of changes
Attend and contribute to weekly change and production support meetings
Bachelor's degree in a technical field or 10+ years of relevant automotive experience with strong BIW (Body-in-White) process understanding
Proven E-coat experience on Class A metal surfaces (required)
Powder coat and PVC process knowledge (strongly preferred)
Familiarity with stamping, automation, or FANUC robotics (a plus)
Solid knowledge of automotive quality systems (FMEA, APQP, PPAP, etc.)
Excellent communication and coordination skills across engineering, operations, and external partners
Strong organization and documentation skills—attention to detail is a must
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
