Job Description

Job Summary: 

The Cost Accountant serves as the plant’s expert on cost accounting systems, ensuring financial integrity and internal controls over financial reporting. This role is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Cost Accountant collaborates with plant leadership, production management, and the sales and marketing teams to provide financial insights, prepare budgets, and support pricing decisions. Additionally, this position provides multi-site financial support, prepares financial reports, and monitors plant performance metrics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Cost Accounting & Financial Reporting:

    • Maintain and uphold internal controls over financial reporting.
    • Develop and update standard costs, Bill of Materials (BOM), and routings in SAP.
    • Prepare monthly journal entries for inventory-related adjustments.
    • Analyze manufacturing costs and compare standard to actual production costs.
    • Assist with month-end closing, including WIP reporting, variance analysis, and journal entries.
    • Reconcile full-time and temporary employee labor hours between SAP and payroll systems weekly.
  • Operational & Continuous Improvement Support:

    • Support production management by assessing continuous improvement projects and measuring progress toward goals.
    • Analyze and monitor production line capacity, utilization, and performance.
    • Maintain integrity between SAP and cost cards, ensuring routing data aligns with playbooks.
    • Provide disposition costs within the Quality Notification (QN) process.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Analysis:

    • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget for the plant.
    • Provide financial analysis of new product performance against pricing assumptions.
    • Support the preparation of pricing quotations for Sales and Marketing teams on new projects or engineering revisions.
    • Track and prepare special billing opportunities, including material and labor costs.
    • Assist in analyzing capital expense projects, monitor CAPEX spending, and assess return on investment (ROI).
  • Reporting & Data Analysis:

    • Prepare and review production metrics daily, weekly, and periodically.
    • Monitor customer-owned inventory, track usages, and analyze usage drivers.
    • Generate financial and operational reports, including:
      • Weekly labor, material usage, and KPI reports
      • Monthly KPI statistics, WIP reporting, and variance by customer reports
      • Monthly pounds reporting and bill-on-production reconciliation
