Job Description

Premier Mechanical Contractor with 50 years experience serving southern Connecticut and NYC metro area is actively searching for a Project Manager to join their highly collaborative commercial contracting team. Projects range from hospitals and university labs to commercial build outs and data centers.  They have a solid base of captive and national accounts and have the luxury of deciding on whether they want to take on new customers / bids based upon their available bandwidth and ability to achieve projected margins. 

The Project Manager has great insight and is truly a good manager making efforts to understand his PMs needs and what they can do to make them successful.

The Project Manager is responsible for project management and sales while also providing cross-functional support to other teams with the goal of providing exceptional customer service to clients. A highly qualified person will individually resolve roadblocks with customer concerns while maintaining relationships with customers and production staff as their trusted advisor.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make sales calls with new and existing customers in response to qualified leads and project requests.
  • Estimation of new projects, producing proposals for review and obtaining approval.
  • Review of contracts for accuracy in scope of work and agreeable terms for the company. Consult with the Senior Manager to determine the correct business decision when terms are out of line with established company expectations..
  • Oversee the development of drawings and documents produced by the engineering department to ensure accuracy and that these documents will meet our customer’s needs while working within the approved contract costs..
  • Visit job sites for building relationships with clients, documenting and reviewing progress, and to resolve high level issues.
  • Stay up on the latest products and technology in the HVAC industry.
  • Provide your customers with timely and professional responses regarding system performance or installations.
  • Return internal and external customer calls the same day they are received and all email inquiries within a business day (even if it is simply to acknowledge the message & let them know when we can address their request).
  • Manage closeout process.
  • Responsible for managing subcontractors and for large equipment and material orders.
  • Maintain working relationships through quarterly check-ins with your customers.
  • Responsible for monthly billing of your projects and managing project AR collections (accounts receivable) and presenting a plan to your manager for review if customer collections exceed company policy.
  • Responsible for understanding job costs and keeping them within budget. Responsible for monthly Work In Progress (WIP) review.
  • Perform monthly cost adjustments based on input from Production Managers. Work with Production Managers to develop a plan to keep and prevent future adjustments.

Report to the Senior Department Manager on the following:

o Monthly billing and cost adjustments o Estimates and proposals as assigned
o Updates regarding new sales call opportunities using Salesforce
o Work in Progress (WIP) reviews o Accounts receivable results
o Resolution of customer experience issues

PREFFERED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ construction related project management experience
  • Engineering degree or HVAC trade license
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of the construction industry as a whole
  • Current up-to-date knowledge of the HVAC industry
  • Knowledge of local codes

  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office, CRM Software, ERP Software, etc)
