Role: UK Bookkeeper
Contract: Part-time Remote Contractor (20 hours weekly / 80 hours monthly)
Business Hours: Monday to Friday, Flexible within 8 AM - 5 PM PST
Rate: $6 - $10 USD hourly / $480 - $800 USD monthly (Salary negotiable based on experience and location)

What You'll Do
As a UK Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for providing part-time, remote bookkeeping support for UK-based operations, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reconciliations, and full compliance with UK accounting standards and regulations. This role serves as a reliable financial support function, maintaining the integrity of day-to-day transaction management, documentation, and reporting processes. You are a detail-oriented and proactive professional who ensures financial data is accurate, organized, and audit-ready while supporting consistent reporting and regulatory compliance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Maintain accurate day-to-day bookkeeping records in accordance with UK accounting standards and regulations.
- Record and reconcile transactions, including income, expenses, and bank statements.
- Support the preparation of monthly and periodic financial reports for review and approval.
- Ensure proper categorization and documentation of financial transactions.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable tracking.
- Support VAT-related recordkeeping and reporting preparation, as required.
- Maintain organized financial files and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders or external accountants as needed.
- Identify discrepancies or issues and escalate them promptly.
- Follow established financial processes, controls, and reporting timelines to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Support the transition from Sage to QuickBooks Online, including data migration support, validation of opening balances, and ongoing bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
What You Should Have
Must-haves:
- Minimum of 2 years of UK Bookkeeping experience or equivalent educational background.
- At least 1 year of experience working remotely with clients in the UK or similar markets.
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Accounting Assistant, supporting UK-based businesses.
- Working knowledge of UK bookkeeping practices, including VAT recordkeeping.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar.
- Experience working with multi-currency transactions.
- Prior exposure to monthly management accounts preparation.
- Experience coordinating with external UK accountants or auditors.
- Experience supporting UK-based SMEs or agencies.
- Strong understanding of transaction categorization, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
- High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with using project management tools such as Asana and similar.
- Ability to work part-time with consistent availability and meet reporting deadlines.

Nice-to-haves:
- Familiarity with UK VAT returns, MTD (Making Tax Digital), or HMRC reporting workflows.
