Job Description

Step into a hands-on contract role where your craftsmanship directly shapes high-performance machinery for clients across South Carolina. This is an opportunity to work on varied, technically challenging builds in a fast-paced environment where precision, safety, and quality are paramount.

About the Role:
As a Contract Machine Builder, you will assemble, wire, and mechanically build custom machinery to exact specifications, ensuring each unit meets stringent performance and safety standards. You will work from detailed blueprints and technical drawings to bring complex designs to life, collaborating closely with engineers and project leads to deliver reliable, production-ready equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble mechanical components and structures for custom machines according to blueprints and technical drawings
  • Perform electrical wiring of machines, including panel building, cable routing, and component installation
  • Conduct precision measurements and quality inspections to verify tolerances, alignment, and overall build accuracy
  • Fabricate and modify metal parts using basic welding and metalworking techniques to support machine builds
  • Install and integrate motors, sensors, drives, and other control components into machine assemblies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues during assembly, testing, and commissioning
  • Maintain accurate build documentation, including assembly notes, changes, and inspection records
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area throughout the build process

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in machine building, industrial equipment assembly, or a closely related field
  • Strong electrical wiring skills, including panel layout, termination, and cable management
  • Proficiency in precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools
  • Ability to interpret and work from mechanical blueprints and electrical/technical drawings
  • Hands-on experience with basic welding and metalworking (cutting, drilling, grinding, fitting)
  • Solid understanding of industrial safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Ability to work independently, manage build priorities, and meet project deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable builds

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience building or wiring automated machinery or production equipment
  • Familiarity with PLC panels, VFDs, and industrial control components
  • Basic troubleshooting of electrical circuits and control systems during testing
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
  • Experience working in a contract or job-shop environment with varied projects

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical certificate or diploma in Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical fields preferred
  • Formal training in electrical wiring or panel building highly beneficial
  • Welding training or certification (e.g., basic MIG/TIG) preferred

If you are a detail-focused machine builder who takes pride in precise, high-quality work, this contract role offers a strong platform to showcase your skills and contribute to complex, impactful projects. Apply now to be part of delivering machinery that performs to exacting standards.
