Job Description

Step into a contract role where your system layout expertise directly shapes efficient, safe, and scalable environments. You’ll join a team that relies on precise planning, technical accuracy, and smart use of space to deliver complex, integrated systems that work flawlessly in the real world.

About the Role:
As a System Layout Designer, you will be responsible for developing detailed layouts and technical drawings that support system integration across multiple disciplines. You will translate functional requirements into clear, buildable designs, ensuring optimal use of space and alignment with engineering standards. Your work will be central to coordinating stakeholders, resolving layout constraints, and enabling smooth project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed system layout drawings using CAD software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Plan and optimise space for equipment, systems, and infrastructure, balancing functionality, accessibility, and safety.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to integrate mechanical, electrical, and other systems into cohesive layouts.
  • Produce clear technical drawings, schematics, and documentation to support fabrication, installation, and construction activities.
  • Review and update layouts based on design changes, site constraints, and stakeholder feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve layout conflicts or clashes, coordinating with relevant disciplines to implement effective solutions.
  • Support design reviews and coordination meetings by presenting layout options, constraints, and recommendations.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a System Layout Designer, CAD Technician, or similar role in an engineering, industrial, or construction environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar) for 2D and/or 3D layout development.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems integration planning, including coordination of multiple disciplines within a single layout.
  • Strong background in space planning and optimisation for technical environments, equipment rooms, or industrial facilities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation with high attention to detail.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working closely with engineers, project managers, and site teams.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to handle multiple layout iterations and deadlines in a contract setting.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with BIM tools and workflows for multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards and codes relevant to system layouts (e.g., building services, manufacturing, or process plants).
  • Exposure to clash detection tools and methodologies.
  • Background in design for constructability, maintainability, and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Drafting, or a related technical discipline.
  • Formal training or certification in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
  • Additional certifications in BIM, drafting, or design technology are an advantage.

If you’re a detail-driven layout specialist who enjoys turning complex requirements into practical, buildable designs, this contract role offers an excellent opportunity to make an immediate impact—apply now.
