About the Role:
You will take ownership of designing, programming, and commissioning advanced control systems, ensuring seamless integration of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, motion control, and industrial networks. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll translate process and production requirements into robust automation solutions that meet safety standards and performance targets. Your role will be central to driving project success, resolving complex technical issues, and optimizing system reliability and throughput.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) for new and existing machinery and processes.
  • Design, configure, and integrate HMI and SCADA systems, including screen development, data acquisition, and alarm management.
  • Program, integrate, and commission industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) including path programming, I/O setup, and coordination with PLCs and motion systems.
  • Configure and tune motion control and servo systems, ensuring precise positioning, speed, and synchronization for automated equipment.
  • Implement and validate industrial networking and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) to support reliable data exchange between devices and systems.
  • Conduct machine safety assessments, apply NFPA, OSHA, and ISO standards, and define safety circuits, interlocks, and functional safety measures.
  • Lead and manage controls-related project activities, including planning, scheduling, documentation, and coordination with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams.
  • Provide on-site and remote commissioning support, diagnosing complex issues and implementing corrective actions to achieve stable, optimized operation.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Controls Engineer working on industrial automation projects, preferably in manufacturing or process industries.
  • Advanced proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting with major platforms such as Allen-Bradley (RSLogix/Studio 5000) and Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7).
  • Strong experience in HMI/SCADA development and integration, including screen design, tag management, and system configuration.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics integration and programming (Fanuc, ABB or similar), including setup, program development, and system testing.
  • Proven ability to configure and optimize motion control and servo systems, including drives, motors, and related hardware.
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) and associated diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage controls scope within projects, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and deliver to schedule and technical requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex automation and control issues under time constraints.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with safety PLCs, safety relays, and functional safety design and validation.
  • Exposure to additional PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms beyond Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
  • Familiarity with MES, historian, or higher-level integration between controls and enterprise systems.
  • Experience in commissioning multi-axis motion systems, robotics cells, or complex material handling systems.
  • Background in standardised design practices, code libraries, and documentation for scalable controls architectures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control/Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Associate degree with substantial relevant experience may be considered for highly experienced candidates.
  • Professional certifications in industrial automation, controls, or robotics (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Fanuc, ABB) preferred.
  • Formal training or certification in machine safety, functional safety, or risk assessment (e.g., TÜV, CFSE, or similar) is an advantage.
