Job Description

Step into a high-impact contract role where your expertise in industrial robotics will directly shape cutting-edge automotive manufacturing. You’ll join a team delivering complex Body-in-White (BIW) automation projects, ensuring robots, sensors, and control systems work seamlessly on demanding production lines.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for programming, configuring, and commissioning industrial robots for BIW applications, ensuring they meet performance, quality, and safety targets. Working closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, you’ll integrate robots with sensors and communication networks to deliver fully functional, production-ready cells. Your work will be critical to achieving reliable cycle times, repeatable processes, and compliance with safety standards on customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, modify, and optimize robot programs for KUKA, ABB, or FANUC robots for BIW applications (e.g., welding, handling, assembly).
  • Commission robot cells on-site, including setup, calibration, and validation of motion paths and process parameters.
  • Integrate and configure vision systems and force/torque sensors within robotic applications to meet process and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure correct installation, alignment, and interfacing of robots and peripheral equipment.
  • Configure and test industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet) between robots, PLCs, and other automation devices.
  • Perform functional testing, fault-finding, and debugging of robotic systems to achieve stable, production-ready operation.
  • Implement and verify safety functions, including interlocks, safety zones, and emergency stops, in line with relevant standards.
  • Document robot programs, configurations, and commissioning activities to support handover and ongoing maintenance.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience programming and commissioning industrial robots (KUKA, ABB, or FANUC) in automotive or similar high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Body-in-White processes and robotic applications such as welding, material handling, and assembly.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems related to robotic cells, including tooling, fixtures, and safety devices.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating and configuring vision systems and force/torque sensors in robotic applications.
  • Practical knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet) and their use in robot–PLC integration.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve robot, sensor, and communication issues during commissioning and production ramp-up.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and risk assessment methodologies for industrial robotics and automated systems.
  • Willingness to work on-site at customer facilities and adapt to project-based contract assignments.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier BIW projects.
  • Exposure to PLC programming or modification for robot interfaces and cell control.
  • Knowledge of offline robot programming and simulation tools.
  • Experience with cycle time optimization and process improvement in automated production lines.
  • Understanding of advanced robotic applications such as adaptive welding or complex multi-robot coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or higher diploma in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Vocational/technical training in industrial automation or robotics programming.
  • OEM or vendor-specific training/certification in KUKA, ABB, or FANUC robots (preferred).
  • Training in machinery safety, functional safety, or risk assessment for industrial automation (preferred).

If you’re a contract Robot Programmer who thrives on complex commissioning work and wants to influence high-performance BIW automation, we’d like to hear from you. Apply now to bring your expertise to challenging, technically demanding projects.
