About the Role:
As a Contract PLC Programmer, you will develop, configure, and optimise PLC and HMI/SCADA systems using Siemens platforms to support automated machinery and production lines. You will be responsible for implementing control strategies, tuning PID loops, and ensuring seamless integration with existing plant infrastructure. Your work will have a direct impact on system uptime, process stability, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and modify PLC programs using VASS 6 and Siemens TIA Portal to meet project and process requirements.
• Configure PLC hardware, including I/O modules, networks, and field devices, ensuring reliable operation and communication.
• Design, develop, and optimise HMI/SCADA screens and visualisations for effective operator interaction and process monitoring.
• Implement, tune, and validate PID control loops to achieve stable and efficient process performance.
• Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on PLC, HMI, and communication systems to identify and resolve faults and performance issues.
• Integrate and commission industrial communication protocols (e.g. PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet-based systems) within automation architectures.
• Apply and verify safety standards and regulations within PLC programs and system configurations, including safety interlocks and emergency stop logic.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support commissioning, testing, and handover of automation solutions.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience as a PLC Programmer working on industrial automation projects in manufacturing or process environments.
• Strong hands-on proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal for PLC programming, configuration, and diagnostics.
• Practical experience implementing and working with VASS 6 standards in automation projects.
• Demonstrated ability to configure PLC hardware, including racks, I/O, and associated field devices.
• Solid experience developing and maintaining HMI/SCADA applications for operator interfaces and plant visualisation.
• Strong capability in PID control implementation and tuning for various process control applications.
• Track record of effective fault-finding, root cause analysis, and resolution of automation system issues.
• Working knowledge of relevant industrial safety standards and regulations and their application in control systems.
• Experience integrating and maintaining industrial communication protocols within multi-vendor environments.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with additional Siemens automation tools and libraries beyond TIA Portal and VASS 6.
• Exposure to safety PLCs and safety-related control systems.
• Understanding of MES or higher-level systems integration with PLC/SCADA platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics for complex machinery.

Qualifications:

• Degree or higher diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Vocational or technical certification in PLC programming or industrial automation.
• Siemens-specific training or certification in TIA Portal and related technologies (preferred).
• Additional training in functional safety or machine safety standards (preferred).
