About the Role:
As a Contract Controls Technician, you will build, wire, and troubleshoot industrial control panels and machinery to support ongoing projects and plant operations. You’ll ensure all electrical work meets NEC standards while maintaining and configuring HMI/SCADA systems and industrial networks. Your contribution will directly impact equipment uptime, safety, and the performance of automated systems across the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble and wire industrial control panels, including mounting components, routing wiring, and labeling per drawings and standards.
• Perform machine wiring and field terminations on motors, sensors, drives, and control devices according to electrical schematics.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and control-related issues on production equipment using meters, test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings to execute installations, modifications, and repairs.
• Ensure all wiring and installations comply with NEC and company standards, including proper grounding, conduit, and cable management.
• Configure, test, and maintain industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) for PLCs, drives, and HMI/SCADA systems.
• Assist with HMI/SCADA configuration changes, basic screen modifications, and system maintenance to support operations.
• Document work performed, update panel and wiring changes, and use basic computer tools to maintain records and reports.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience as an Electrical/Controls Technician or Panel Builder in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong hands-on skills in panel building and machine wiring, including neat wiring practices and proper terminations.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and control circuits, including sensors, relays, drives, and I/O devices.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics and wiring diagrams without supervision.
• Practical knowledge of NEC wiring standards and safe electrical work practices in industrial settings.
• Familiarity with industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) for connecting and maintaining control devices.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems for basic configuration, maintenance, and fault investigation.
• Basic computer skills for using email, documentation tools, and manufacturer/software utilities.

Desirable Skills:

• Exposure to PLC hardware and basic PLC fault-finding or minor program adjustments.
• Experience working with VFDs, servo drives, and motion control systems.
• Background in automated machinery, packaging lines, or process control environments.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers and project managers on control system upgrades and modifications.
• Understanding of industrial cybersecurity considerations for networked control systems.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.
• Formal training in industrial controls, panel building, or automation is an advantage.
• Relevant safety or electrical certifications (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E) preferred.
