About the Role:
As a Contract CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting CNC equipment to produce components to exact specifications. You will work from blueprints and technical drawings, apply CAD/CAM and G-code programming skills, and perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality standards. Your contribution will be critical in maintaining throughput, reducing scrap, and supporting on-time delivery for customer orders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses to produce precision components to specified tolerances.
• Load, align, and secure workpieces and tooling, verifying proper machine setup prior to production runs.
• Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-code and CAD/CAM software to achieve efficient and accurate machining.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining sequences, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using appropriate measuring tools, documenting results and adjusting processes as needed.
• Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and make offsets or tooling changes to maintain part quality and productivity.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety procedures and standard operating practices.
• Record production data and basic reports using Microsoft Office or shop-floor systems as required.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience as a CNC Machinist working with mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses in a production or job-shop environment.
• Strong proficiency in CNC machine setup, including tooling selection, fixture setup, and offset adjustments.
• Hands-on experience with G-code programming and editing for CNC equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions with a high level of accuracy.
• Solid understanding of quality control and inspection procedures, including use of measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
• Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining and inspection.
• Competence using Microsoft Office for basic documentation, data entry, and reporting.
• Ability to work independently, meet production schedules, and maintain consistent attention to detail.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for toolpath generation and program optimization.
• Background in a high-mix, low-volume environment requiring frequent changeovers and custom setups.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement practices such as 5S, lean manufacturing, or root cause analysis.
• Exposure to ISO or similar quality management systems.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering or quality teams on manufacturability and process improvements.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Formal training or apprenticeship in CNC machining or precision manufacturing is preferred.
• Vocational/technical certificate in machining, CNC operation, or related field is an advantage.
• Any relevant CAD/CAM or CNC programming certifications are beneficial.
