Step into a key engineering role where you’ll shape advanced robotic automation for high-profile industrial projects across North America. This is a hands-on contract position with a leading integrator, offering broad technical scope, complex challenges, and the chance to see your work move from concept through to full production in automotive and general manufacturing environments.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for developing, commissioning, and optimising robotic control systems that drive automated production lines, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety. Working closely with project teams and customer engineering groups, you’ll lead robotics projects from initial design through launch, providing expert technical support during startup and ongoing production. Your work will directly impact throughput, quality, and uptime across multiple plants and platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, commission, and optimise robotic automation systems for industrial applications, from initial setup through production launch.
  • Configure robot TCPs, User Frames, payloads, safety parameters, and communication interfaces to meet process and customer requirements.
  • Commission and fine-tune dispense systems for adhesive, sealer, urethane, and paint applications, ensuring accurate and repeatable material delivery.
  • Integrate and validate robot-mounted and floor-mounted vision systems, including calibration, alignment, and functional testing.
  • Create offline robot programs and simulations to verify feasibility, optimise paths, and support virtual commissioning activities.
  • Analyse and optimise robot cycle times, validate robot models, and implement improvements to maximise throughput and minimise downtime.
  • Lead robotics projects from concept design through installation, debugging, and handover to production, coordinating with internal and customer stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot robotic systems during startup and live production, diagnosing root causes and implementing robust corrective actions on-site.
  • Configure and tune motion control and servo drive systems, including PID control design for precise, stable motion performance.
  • Implement and support industrial communication networks (e.g. EtherNet/IP, Modbus, CAN) between robots, PLCs, drives, and auxiliary equipment.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven industrial robotics experience (preferably 7–10 years) in commissioning, optimisation, and support of production automation systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience configuring robot TCPs, frames, payloads, safety settings, and communication interfaces on major robot platforms.
  • Demonstrated capability in commissioning dispense processes for adhesives, sealers, urethanes, and paint within manufacturing environments.
  • Practical experience integrating and supporting industrial vision systems with robots, including setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in developing offline robot programs and simulations, using industry-standard tools to validate and optimise cell performance.
  • Solid background in motion control and servo drive configuration, including PID control design and tuning for real-time applications.
  • Experience programming embedded C/C++ for real-time control systems and interfacing with industrial hardware.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and CAN for multi-device integration.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 35–50% throughout North America to support commissioning, launch activities, and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex automation issues under time pressure and in live production environments.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with multiple robot brands (e.g. FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa) and their respective programming environments.
  • Exposure to automotive body shop, paint shop, or general assembly automation projects.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and HMI configuration for integrated automation cells.
  • Experience with safety PLCs, safety circuits, and risk assessments for robotic systems.
  • Background in model-based design, simulation, or digital twin environments for robotics and motion control.
  • Knowledge of structured software development practices, version control, and documentation standards in industrial automation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Associate degree in a technical field with substantial relevant experience may be considered.
  • Formal training or certification in industrial robotics from a recognised vendor or institution (preferred).
  • Additional coursework or certification in motion control, embedded systems, or industrial networking (preferred).
