Step into a senior design role where your electrical engineering expertise will directly shape complex building projects across Ohio. This is a contract opportunity to lead advanced power, lighting, and emergency system designs for a range of commercial and industrial facilities, working with a team that values technical precision and clear coordination.
About the Role:
In this Senior Electrical Designer position, you will take ownership of medium and low voltage electrical system designs from concept through detailed documentation. You will be responsible for producing accurate, code-compliant drawings and models while coordinating closely with architectural and mechanical teams to ensure fully integrated building systems. Your work will have a direct impact on project quality, safety, and constructability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed designs for medium and low voltage power distribution systems for commercial and industrial projects.
- Design interior and exterior lighting systems, including emergency and egress lighting, to meet project performance and code requirements.
- Engineer emergency power systems, including generators, transfer switches, and associated distribution, ensuring reliability and compliance.
- Produce and update electrical drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP, maintaining drawing standards and project documentation.
- Perform load calculations, panel schedules, feeder sizing, and short-circuit/coordination studies as needed for system design.
- Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements to all designs, documenting code compliance and addressing authority review comments.
- Coordinate electrical designs with architectural layouts and mechanical systems, resolving conflicts and supporting clash detection.
- Support construction-phase activities by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and addressing field issues related to electrical design.
Key Requirements:
- Significant experience in electrical design for building power distribution systems, including medium and low voltage applications.
- Proven capability in lighting and emergency power system design for commercial or industrial facilities.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP for electrical drafting and modeling.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its application to building projects.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with architectural and mechanical disciplines in a multi-disciplinary project environment.
- Ability to work independently in a senior role, managing design tasks, priorities, and deadlines on multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including clear drawings, design narratives, and calculation packages.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with power system analysis software for load flow, short-circuit, and protective device coordination.
- Background in designing systems for mission-critical, healthcare, or industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient lighting design and controls, including occupancy and daylighting strategies.
- Experience working in a consulting engineering or design-build environment.
- Knowledge of other relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IEEE) applicable to building electrical systems.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Extensive industry experience in electrical design for buildings, with senior-level responsibilities on projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering in Ohio preferred but not mandatory for the designer role.
- Relevant professional certifications in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP use are advantageous.
