About the Role:
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities across multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and to specification. You will act as a central technical point of contact, integrating design, quality, and compliance requirements into practical solutions. Your work will help ensure that all mechanical systems meet client expectations, regulatory standards, and internal quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute mechanical engineering projects from initial scope definition through to commissioning and handover.
- Develop, review, and update mechanical designs and layouts using AutoCAD, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.
- Prepare, maintain, and control technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Monitor project progress, manage schedules and deliverables, and report status to stakeholders, highlighting risks and mitigation actions.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance and control activities for mechanical systems, including inspections, testing, and verification.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements at local, state, and federal levels.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to resolve technical issues and support field installation and commissioning.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and lessons-learned sessions to drive continuous improvement in project delivery.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer or similar role delivering mechanical projects in an industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating multidisciplinary activities.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for mechanical design, layout, and drawing production.
- Demonstrated experience in quality assurance and quality control for mechanical systems.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and construction methods.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, and regulations to design and project execution.
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing clear, accurate engineering documentation.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across teams and with external partners.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with additional CAD or engineering software (e.g., Revit, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Background in regulated industries such as utilities, manufacturing, or building services.
- Familiarity with risk assessments, HAZOPs, or similar safety and reliability processes.
- Experience supporting commissioning, start-up, and performance testing of mechanical systems.
- Prior experience working in a contract or consultancy environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or eligibility/in-progress licensure (preferred).
- Project management training or certification (e.g., PMP or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Relevant continuing education or coursework in codes, standards, or quality management is beneficial.
