About the Role:
As a Contract Project Engineer, you will oversee the technical and engineering aspects of construction projects from planning through close-out, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and to required standards. You will act as a key liaison between design, construction, vendors, and stakeholders, translating project requirements into executable plans. Your work will drive consistency, compliance, and quality across all phases of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and milestones, ensuring alignment with scope and contractual commitments.
- Coordinate and oversee construction activities, providing engineering support to field teams to resolve technical issues and maintain progress.
- Identify project risks, perform risk assessments, and implement mitigation strategies to minimise schedule, cost, and quality impacts.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, coordinating inspections and documentation as needed.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance and quality control procedures, including reviews, inspections, and testing protocols.
- Perform technical design reviews and analyses, validating constructability, accuracy, and adherence to project specifications.
- Manage contracts and vendor relationships, including scope definition, change management, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
- Prepare and present project status reports, technical documentation, and progress updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer in construction or related engineering projects.
- Strong background in project planning, scheduling, and coordinating multi-disciplinary project activities.
- Demonstrated experience in construction management, including field coordination and contractor oversight.
- Practical experience in risk assessment and mitigation within construction or engineering environments.
- Solid understanding of regulatory and code compliance relevant to construction projects in the U.S.
- Hands-on experience with quality assurance and quality control processes on construction or engineering projects.
- Proficiency in technical design review and analysis, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
- Experience managing contracts and vendors, including negotiation, performance tracking, and issue escalation.
- Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with project management software and scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Experience working on projects in industrial, commercial, or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience working on ITAR-controlled projects or familiarity with ITAR compliance requirements and handling controlled technical data.
- Knowledge of lean construction practices or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Exposure to cost control, budgeting, and forecasting in a project environment.
- Ability to work across multiple concurrent projects or phases.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or eligibility to obtain it is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification is an advantage.
- Relevant safety training or certifications (e.g., OSHA) are beneficial.
