Job Description

Step into a role where your welding and automation expertise directly shapes high-performance manufacturing solutions. You’ll join a team delivering complex, automated systems and play a critical part in ensuring weld quality, equipment reliability, and compliance with customer specifications.

About the Role:
This role is responsible for designing and validating weld fixtures and establishing robust weld processes for automated equipment used in production environments. You will bridge mechanical and controls engineering, ensuring that welding systems and associated automation are properly designed, programmed, debugged, and validated. Your work will have a direct impact on product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and assist in the design of weld fixtures to support automated and manual welding operations.
  • Establish weld process parameters for various welding equipment to meet quality and performance requirements.
  • Coordinate or assist in weld fixture validation, including functional testing and verification of finished part gauges.
  • Design, implement, and document control systems for different types of automated equipment used in welding applications.
  • Conduct electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic design for automated machinery, ensuring integration with weld processes.
  • Program peripheral devices and machine PLCs to control welding operations and related automation.
  • Coordinate machine debug, power-up, and validation activities with build and electrical teams to achieve stable, production-ready systems.
  • Ensure all equipment design and programming complies with customer specifications and JR Automation standards, using established techniques and approaches.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Weld Engineer or Automation Engineer working with weld fixtures and automated welding systems.
  • Hands-on experience establishing and optimizing weld process parameters for production environments.
  • Strong background in designing and validating weld fixtures and associated gauges for finished parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement control systems for automated equipment, including integration with welding processes.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and peripheral device programming for industrial automation.
  • Practical experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in machinery design.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical, electrical, and build teams to complete debug and validation activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting customer and internal build specifications.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with JR Automation equipment or similar automated manufacturing platforms.
  • Familiarity with multiple welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, resistance) and their application in automated systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and fieldbus systems used in automation.
  • Experience with CAD tools for fixture design and electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic schematics.
  • Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement related to welding and automation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in a relevant discipline with significant industry experience may be considered.
  • Professional certifications in welding (e.g., AWS) or industrial automation are preferred.
  • Documented training or coursework in PLC programming and industrial controls is an advantage.

If you are a detail-focused engineer with a strong blend of welding and automation skills, this role offers an opportunity to make a tangible impact on advanced manufacturing projects—apply now to be considered.
