About the Role:
As a Contract Machine Builder, you will assemble, wire, and commission custom industrial equipment to meet precise customer and engineering specifications. You’ll work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure machines are built correctly, tested thoroughly, and delivered safely and on time. Your work directly impacts production performance, equipment reliability, and overall customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble mechanical components, frames, guards, and subassemblies according to engineering drawings and build documentation.
• Perform electrical panel layout, wiring, routing, and terminations for control systems and field devices.
• Install, connect, and verify PLC hardware, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, and related control components.
• Conduct equipment testing, calibration, and functional checks to validate machine performance against specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems during build and startup.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate assembly and installation.
• Complete required build records, test documentation, and sign-offs to support quality and traceability.
• Follow industrial safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and housekeeping standards throughout the build process.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in machine building, equipment assembly, or industrial maintenance in a manufacturing or automation environment.
• Strong hands-on skills in electrical wiring, cable routing, and panel/build-out work.
• Working knowledge of PLC fundamentals, including understanding I/O, basic ladder logic concepts, and control architecture.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and hydraulic diagrams.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues systematically.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards and safe work practices in a shop or plant setting.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and test equipment accurately.
• Capacity to work independently, manage build priorities, and meet project deadlines in a contract environment.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with specific PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and basic program changes.
• Background in automated machinery, packaging equipment, or custom industrial systems.
• Exposure to pneumatics, motion control, and servo systems.
• Experience with commissioning equipment at customer sites.
• Basic understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical certificate or diploma in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
