Step into a high-impact contract role where your control systems expertise directly shapes complex automation projects. You’ll work with a forward-thinking engineering team, representing Orise as a trusted technical partner to clients while delivering robust PLC, SCADA and HMI solutions across multiple sectors.

About the Role:
As a Contract Controls Engineer, you will support the full lifecycle of automation projects, from design and specification through commissioning and handover. You will contribute to the development of compliant, vendor-agnostic control solutions aligned with project tender requirements and Orise delivery methodologies. Operating as a key technical interface, you will ensure projects are delivered within scope, budget and schedule while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of control system designs in line with project tender specifications and Orise project delivery methodologies.
  • Represent Orise as the technical point of contact during client consultations, RFI responses, technical clarification meetings and project delivery phases.
  • Lead the development, configuration and testing of PLC, SCADA and HMI solutions using vendor-agnostic automation platforms.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and on-site commissioning activities.
  • Execute technical tasks related to project scope, including programming, documentation, installation support and system integration.
  • Share technical knowledge with project delivery teams across regions to develop accurate, segment-specific solutions for customer requirements.
  • Contribute to technical retrospectives and feedback sessions to improve the operational effectiveness of delivery teams.
  • Monitor project and task budgets for design, documentation, programming, installation and commissioning to ensure delivery within agreed financial and schedule constraints.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer delivering PLC/SCADA/HMI-based solutions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PLC programming, SCADA configuration and HMI development on multiple vendor platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and work from tender specifications, functional design specifications and control philosophies.
  • Experience performing FAT, SAT and on-site commissioning of industrial control systems.
  • Solid understanding of control system architectures, industrial communication protocols and field instrumentation.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to lead technical discussions, clarifications and RFI responses.
  • Proven ability to manage workload against project budgets and timelines in a project-based environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary project team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with vendor-agnostic or open-platform automation solutions.
  • Exposure to multiple industry sectors (e.g. manufacturing, utilities, process, infrastructure).
  • Familiarity with safety-related control systems and relevant standards.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing across regional teams.
  • Previous experience in a contract or consultancy-based engineering role.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Higher National qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control/Automation Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent practical training in industrial automation or controls (preferred).
  • Professional registration or membership of an engineering institution (e.g. IET, ISA) is advantageous.
  • Relevant vendor or platform certifications in PLC/SCADA/HMI technologies are desirable.

If you’re a technically strong Controls Engineer who enjoys client interaction and full-lifecycle project delivery, this contract role offers an excellent opportunity to make a measurable impact—apply now to be considered.
