About the Role:
As a Contract Controls Engineer, you will support the full lifecycle of automation projects, from design and specification through commissioning and handover. You will contribute to the development of compliant, vendor-agnostic control solutions aligned with project tender requirements and Orise delivery methodologies. Operating as a key technical interface, you will ensure projects are delivered within scope, budget and schedule while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development of control system designs in line with project tender specifications and Orise project delivery methodologies.
- Represent Orise as the technical point of contact during client consultations, RFI responses, technical clarification meetings and project delivery phases.
- Lead the development, configuration and testing of PLC, SCADA and HMI solutions using vendor-agnostic automation platforms.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and on-site commissioning activities.
- Execute technical tasks related to project scope, including programming, documentation, installation support and system integration.
- Share technical knowledge with project delivery teams across regions to develop accurate, segment-specific solutions for customer requirements.
- Contribute to technical retrospectives and feedback sessions to improve the operational effectiveness of delivery teams.
- Monitor project and task budgets for design, documentation, programming, installation and commissioning to ensure delivery within agreed financial and schedule constraints.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer delivering PLC/SCADA/HMI-based solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience with PLC programming, SCADA configuration and HMI development on multiple vendor platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and work from tender specifications, functional design specifications and control philosophies.
- Experience performing FAT, SAT and on-site commissioning of industrial control systems.
- Solid understanding of control system architectures, industrial communication protocols and field instrumentation.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to lead technical discussions, clarifications and RFI responses.
- Proven ability to manage workload against project budgets and timelines in a project-based environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary project team.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with vendor-agnostic or open-platform automation solutions.
- Exposure to multiple industry sectors (e.g. manufacturing, utilities, process, infrastructure).
- Familiarity with safety-related control systems and relevant standards.
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing across regional teams.
- Previous experience in a contract or consultancy-based engineering role.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Higher National qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control/Automation Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent practical training in industrial automation or controls (preferred).
- Professional registration or membership of an engineering institution (e.g. IET, ISA) is advantageous.
- Relevant vendor or platform certifications in PLC/SCADA/HMI technologies are desirable.
