Job Description

Step into a high-impact contract role where you’ll own end-to-end project delivery, drive profitability, and be the central point of control for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. This is an opportunity to work with a respected organisation in Sydney, leading critical projects from planning through to completion and ensuring they land on time, on budget, and to the highest standard.

About the Role:
As Contract Project Manager, you will take full accountability for the efficient and effective delivery of multiple projects under execution. You will lead planning, financial control, risk management, and stakeholder communication, ensuring each project remains commercially viable and aligned with agreed scope. Your work will directly influence project profitability, customer satisfaction, and the overall performance of the operations function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of end-to-end project delivery, ensuring scope, schedule, quality, and cost objectives are met.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project delivery plans, including timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and dependencies.
  • Manage project financials, including budgets, cost tracking, variation management, and profitability analysis for projects under execution.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies, and implement effective remediation and mitigation plans.
  • Lead change management across projects, clearly articulating impacts to scope, cost, and schedule to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for customers, driving timely issue resolution and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Conduct periodic project reviews to assess project health, performance against plan, and adherence to commercial and contractual parameters.
  • Provide accurate project forecasting, including cost of sale, quoted vs actual hours, and progressive profitability to support operational decision-making.
  • Oversee project invoicing and progress claims to ensure timely, accurate billing aligned with contractual terms and project milestones.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager delivering complex projects end-to-end, ideally in a contract or commercial project environment.
  • Demonstrated capability in project planning, scheduling, and coordination across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, and variation management to maintain and improve project profitability.
  • Experience managing project risks, issues, and change, with a track record of implementing effective mitigation and remediation strategies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with customers, internal teams, and senior management.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on practical, commercially sound outcomes.
  • High level of attention to detail, organisation, and follow-through in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and MS Office (particularly Excel and project tracking/reporting tools).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in contract or commercial project environments within construction, engineering, technology, or related sectors.
  • Familiarity with contract administration, progress claims, and contractual variation processes.
  • Exposure to structured project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile) and associated toolsets.
  • Previous experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrix or multi-site organisation.
  • Experience in continuous improvement or process optimisation within project delivery functions.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Formal project management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, AIPM) is highly regarded.
  • Additional training or certification in contract management, commercial management, or finance is an advantage.

If you are a commercially astute Project Manager who thrives on accountability and delivering profitable projects, this contract role offers an excellent opportunity to make a measurable impact—apply now to be considered.
